Meconium ileus is a bowel obstacle that occurs when the meconium in your child's intestine is even more cordial and stickier than usual meconium, creating a blockage during a portion of the tiny intestine called the ileum. Your child may need a bowel resection, a surgical method that brings part of the small intestine out to the exterior of the abdominal wall. This produces an ileostomy, which is unstable. The bowel can be connected once your child's ileus is gone
